Getting ready to head over to Joe's in a few hours...yay for new years' parties! It'll be awesome to see everyone again. I wish I had brought my camera back from Tech with me. Although, I guess I could go get it first. Eh, I'm not that ambitious.

Got an email back from Jeremiah. Seems like he's having fun out in Vegas. I'm glad. He needed to get out of here. I hope his internship works out. As much as I'd miss him, he needs to get away from everyone's favorite whore.

Lee IM'd me earlier today and wanted to know what I thought about starting up a business in the area. The more I think about it, the more I like it. I think we all could do it, and that we'd probably have much more fun this way. And we all know how I feel about making your own opportunities.

"make a whole new religion
a falling star that you cannot live without
and i'll feed your obsession
the falling star that you cannot live without
I will be your religion
this thing you'll never doubt
you're not the only one
you're not the only one
bow down to me..."

So I just found out that Alan Rickman is filming a movie up in Baltimore. So guess where I'm going. Me and Corrie are gonna hang out for a day or two on the set. Maybe hit a Jarflys show too while we're at it.
I need to go back down to Tech and get my camera. And my sexy clothes.

Heather, I figured you'd appreciate this. :-)

New changes! I got a cool program that adds commentary to my blog, so now like LiveJournal or Xanga, you guys can respond to what I write.
Also, I've added a link to Chibi's LiveJournal (lead singer of The Birthday Massacre). She writes some pretty good stuff.

I hate being sick. I think drinking all that green tea kept me healthier for longer, but now I'm the not-so-proud holder of a cold, so I'm taking the day off today. Seriously, I didn't even wake up until 2 this afternoon.

We went shopping yesterday - I found 2 new pairs of pants, one of which is really awesome...like, all gothic and stuff, but their white. Fun stuff.

I had something really cool happen yesterday evening, too. I was all chilling online and Jason from SRC just randomly IM's me. I had just joined the message board, so he must have seen me online. I thought that was pretty awesome. He gave me the name and contact info for their tour manager / lighting designer. Hot stuff. People like him, Amir, Lou, and Fluffy just rock my world. It's so cool to have artists really care about the fans.

In that vein, I'm doing a feature on how cool artists can be to their fans...if you have a cool story about how an artist treated you well, email me and the best ones will be featured in an article posted on D1. Rock on.

Oh, and if you haven't seen, Fluffy's first live show has been announced. I so wish I could go. Anyone wanna fly me out to Vancouver?

Woot! A day of editing and FTPing pays off. You should all head over to the main page of D1 and read the interview I did with Amir. It's really cool. I got a lot of the articles up today, and I've only got a few more to go...hopefully I'll be all caught up by this weekend. I've got a few more interviews hopefully in the works...two, in fact, which if they happen will be really fabulous.

I know that I'm reaching the point where I'm getting a bit board sometimes, so if you are too, here are some message boards I would suggest:

What Would You Go to Jail For? (Many outcomes)
brought to you by Quizilla
I had a really great evening. I was online and Joe gets on, and is like "hey, let's go get coffee." So off to Mill Mountain we go, and we spend most of the night there, then at Denny's (stupid bassackwards protestant we all go to bed at 10pm town...tf?) catching up. I can't believe it's been a whole four years since I've seen him. Weren't we just dating last month or something? I can't believe how much time has passed.

I'm glad to see that he seems to be doing better now. I think he's getting to the place that he should be at now...it's good to see my friends working through things. It seems I've known so many hard times of my friends; it's nice to see that finally at least one person is pulling through and pressing on.

I'm so different. College has really changed me. I'm not a teenager anymore.

Oh, and I just got the interview back from Amir...how cool is that?!

Sunday, December 21, 2003

I've spent most of the day looking for a job. What to do when I graduate? I've found loads of theatres and such I'm going to appy to, but nothing has really popped out as being amazing. However, I do have 5 months yet, so plenty can happen.

I've also been getting caught up - finally - on web stuff. D1, LH.com, Fluffy...it's so nice having steady internet again. Though this firewall is driving me nuts. I can't FTP to D1 from my computer, so I have to upload on my dad's; but I can't login to D1 on my dad's computer, so I have to update the webpage on my computer. It's so frustrating. And it's just for D1, too. I can FTP just fine to Fluffy's site or to mine. And all three are on the same server. Wierd.

Anyways, I'm getting ready to head down to church to run the spotlight for the children's musical. Fun times. But in other news, my mom's church still seems really interested in having me design lights for their big Easter pageant. I hope that will be a good thing. :-)
"One size fits all doesn't" - JCS, "When You Die You're Dead"

I am so tired of clothing. I'm tired of the fact that the fashion industry has now classified "Large" as a 5 or 6. And you don't really see "X-Large" anymore. And, ok, yeah, I'm not a model, but I AM NOT FAT. There is no reason why someone who is a size 8 can't buy clothing anymore. It's rediculous. Not only can I not find anything because of the recent change in sizing, but also take into account that I'm not 6 feet tall and I can't wear anything with metal on it...I am so screwed from the start. That's not even taking into account my own personal tastes in clothing...and let me tell you, southside Virginia is not the king of good dressing taste.
This shit still makes me wanna make my own clothing line for me and for the other 3/4ths of the woman in the world that the clothing industry refuses to acknowledge exists. Non-anorexic women, in other words.

Anyways, I posted Avery's interview with Jay on the D1 site and it's gotten some great feedback. I hope Ryan & Amir's will be just as interesting.

Ok, and probably not moving my blog after all, because this thing is pissing me off, too.

Yes, this will be changing to www.laurahofford.com/me/blog.html in a few days. Change your bookmarks. :-) My first two pages of my site are up, so go check it out.

Two more scores for the day with D1: First of all, Ryan and Amir of Julien-K (yes, of Orgy, too) have agreed to do an interview. Second: Lou gave me permission to use him as a reference for my resume. I'm doubly cool!

Good day. Good start to a hopefully good break.

Friday, December 19, 2003

So all my info has been transfered over to the D1 server, so I will be uploading my new portfolio soon! Yay!

Today has been really cool...I got a promo pack from No Fate in the mail today, and their new demos are fantastic! I was really blown away by the new stuff...they've asked me to do a review for them, so I'll get that done and on D1 soon. Also, what's really cool is that in their pack they've got my interview listed. I feel so cool. Then, I found this awesome band that Paige Haley is producing called Ion...I think I probably posted them as a song of the day a few days ago...anyways, I contacted them and they'll be doing an interview with me. Fun times! The next idea I have is to try to get in touch with Ryan and Amir about Julien-K...in a few days we'll have Jay and Paige represented on D1, so I'd like to get the rest of the band, too!

I'll be painting part of the kitchen this weekend, and then I've got a job painting over at the house of one of the guys that goes to my church, so that'll give me some extra cash.

I like my career.

Yay! I just signed up for real webspace with D1, so watch out here in the next few days...I'm gonna be throwing this up on my own server, so you'll need to watch for the change in address. It'll more than likely be www.laurahofford.com/me/blog.html, but I'll let you know for sure.

Lou Gordon is the best!
And the semester is officially over.

I have just turned in my last project, and the stress is pouring off of me. Now I have time to do all the other good, fun stuff I haven't been able to do lately. Like upload articles for D1. Transfer my webhosting. Update that whole damn site. Play with fun lights. Sleep. Eat. Drink...........

Ok, back to playing on the internet.

Haven't been online in awhile, so here's the latest...

Got my copy of The Obvious in the mail the other day...it's so cool. But you know what's even cooler? Seeing the D1 imprint on a CD. Made this so much more real.

Went on to Liberty the other day. Finished up my research, and then headed home. As I got up to leave, I was like, "ok, God, I'd really like to see Johnnie again, but it's ok if I don't." So I walked past his office, and he wasn't there. So I thought, ok, and got in the car. But as I was driving out of the parking lot, guess who I see walking down towards me! We talked for a moment, but he was busy so I headed on...but it was nice seeing him again.

Had a fabulous wine and cheese party at my place. Aaron stopped by, and then Ryan and Jeanette were in town too. Lots of people came...it was lots of fun.

Ok, heading on to study for this exam...

Wednesday, December 10, 2003

Me: "Yeah, it was a 4.5"
Corrie: "Listen to us, we're all proud of our earthquake...I wonder what the people in California would think."
Me: " 'We've got aftershocks bigger than that...' "

3:30 am and the AIS paper is done and Design Gallery is ready. I should go to sleep...

Sleep is overratted...at least tonight...

Monday, December 08, 2003

Fun times the last week of school. Spent most of the afternoon striking the dance show. Went pretty fast. I'm currently in discussion with the guy in charge of the Easter pageant at my mom's church...might be doing lights or something for that, so that would be cool. I'm also picking up the I-beams Wednesday and taking them to Roanoke for a show I'm helping with there. Yay for theatre!

So all I have to do is finish these last three projects. Doing HODAT tonight, AIS tomorrow, and J-AJ on Thursday. I only have one exam, so I'll be back in Roanoke for good on Tuesday. This is like the first time ever I didn't have to stay through all of exam week.

I might be having a little get together at my place Friday evening. Wine and Cheese party. Overage, bring a bottle. Underage, bring some cheese. Should work out well. Speaking of which, I better start cleaning this place up...

The show went so well last night. Patty and Greg were there, and they loved it. Patty sent out another email on the listserv last night encouraging everyone else to come...makes me feel good.

Yes, I have been completely successful. Why would you expect anything less? This is what it came down to, and I prevailed. This is what all that work and heartache last semester was for. I'm not going anywhere.

A Day In The Life of a 21-Year-Old

So yesterday was a fabulous day. I woke up early to get started on my show, and I got EVERYTHING done by 3pm. Then I had time to do prelim cuing. Go me. And, on top of that, guess who calls to wish me a happy birthday? Fluffy Starr! I'm so cool!

Last night we headed to the Cellar, and yes, I'm sporting a nice headache now for it. But it was loads of fun...a really nice way to end the day. Plus I didn't pay for any of it.

Anyways, here's some stuff that Jeremiah has ever so kindly reminded me to post:

Quote of the Day: "You'd be on me like white rice...or whatever that saying is." - Jeremiah

Hero of the Day : Cullen, for biting a chunk of metal out of my beer can. Corrie is the runner-up for following suit. Polanah is in third place for actually showing up.
