Back from midnight mass...at 10...yeah...
Basically the yearly "why I'm not a Catholic anymore" ritual - subject myself to an hour or so of litany and screaming babies whose moms don't have the decency to put in the nursery. And it's really hard to keep a straight face when you have lines from things such as Dogma and Family Guy running through your head...You don't celebrate your faith, you mourne it....This is really the blood of Christ? That dude must've been wasted 24 hours a day....
Speaking of the blood of Christ...about transubstantiation. What if it doesn't work? Does the priest just start over? I mean seriously, have you ever seen one try again? Or is it expected that by the time their a full-fledged priest they're in such devine communication with God that they won't mess up?
I don't believe in substantiation, I don't believe in purgatory, and I don't believe in the Immaculate Conception. I do believe in the 10 commandments however, including the one that says not to worship idols. As I stood there and watched the priest bless the Bible with incense while we all stood to hear it read, I'm reminded how the Christian religion today has made the Bible an idol in itself. The Church is so lost.
If I thought that going to Liberty for grad school would actually make a difference, I think I would.
