Oi. And the saga continues. The TD was late again today, so the first part of tech was spent trying to figure out things he could have answered for us in 2 minutes had he been there. *slams head on desk*
For instance...I wanted to move the light board out to the house so I could program. We spent the better part of the first hour looking for some extra 5-pin dmx, but to no avail. The techs told me they had an RFU - but they didn't know where. So we take the board back up to the booth and I sadly attempt to cue from up there, but I'm so far in the ceiling I can't see a damn thing. So finally I resort to going to the house on headset and working off my papers and having a headset run to talk to the board op.
Having a board op would have been the key element missing. None of the techs had been trained on the board, so basically I'm stuck reciting key strokes to talk these guys through programming.
I very distinctly remember that I was in fact taught to run a light board this way. I also remember hating every minute of it.
I was in high school working for a big name LD that had come in with an outside show and she was VERY intimidating. So I tried desperately not to be that kind of experience for these guys. Anyways. We struggled through tech fairly well in the end, but we could have been done a lot sooner and I could have actually made the concert tonight. Ah, well...
