Colleen, I found our new home.
So I said earlier that this day couldn't get any better. I was so wrong. After spending a great deal of time getting ready to promote this Disown show and taking care of some errands, I headed on down to Midnight to go over some of the details for next week.
Wow, does everything about that place rock hardcore.
It's a bit on the small size, but bigger than a shoebox storefront...they've got a big bar and a dance floor, so hey, it's all good. But the people there - it's like a big goth family. Not the pretentious subdued kind, but the ones who are genuinely glad to meet new people. I met so many awesome people, and every conversation turned into another opportunity. Over the course of the evening I not only confirmed the band details, but I got a lighting rig into the deal, possibly secured another RAM band for Midian later on this summer, may have an opportunity to promote a major industrial act on Alfa Matrix, got the scoop on some new bands in the scene as well as the current politics now that Nation is closing, and the promise of DJ lessons from one of their resident spinners.
I mean, hot shit.
The DJ's were soooo good. I wanted to dance to everything, and the crowd did too. I know that this is me and Colleen's new club home. I also met a kick ass chick that was visiting for the first time as well, and I think she'd fit into our girly crew well, too, lol.
The venue promotor took such good care of me tonight too. He knew I was sick, and it seemed that everytime I finished my water he had another one for me. Everyone was so supportive - people seem really interested in what I'm doing and about the show next week. I had a great guy that reminded me very much of Dana's dad talk to me for awhile, and wanted to assure me that if I had any problems that I could just talk to him, lol. I mean, I can't get over how great this vibe is.
Next Saturday could possibly be the greatest day of my life.
And, on top of that, it looks like I'll be confirm a second Disown show (this time an acoustic set) earlier that afternoon at Strangeland, once I finalize everything with Ryan.
But to complete the night, I got online with just the intent of checking up on things before I crashed out, and got a cute (and I think somewhat drunken email) from Chris. I know that all of my friends really support me, but I think specifically people like you, Cameron, Corrie, and Mike have always been particularly vocal about prodding me along. You know what, in the end, maybe this won't work as a steady job, but hell this is why I came here - to try. And dammit if I haven't reached a moderate level of success already. Even if one day I do have to back down and go to a "normal" job, I did it. I did what I came here to do. And that is so much more than many people can say. And yes, if I can sit in three hour traffic, you can do AV management like a pro. People like us rock, you know. :-)
So tired...becoming fragmented...off to sleep...
