If I had to use eight words to describe the last 24 hours, they would be: Freaks United, photo shoots, and emergency room visits.
How was your Fourth of July?
We'll start in chronological order. So yesterday afternoon much of my coughing had subsided, and even though my voice was still pretty much MIA, I decided to head down early for Freaks United at Nation...figured I'd get their right as things were starting and get good parking; then leave early if I needed to. I got there and said hi to Ryan over at Strangeland who was doing a booming business already, then ran into Dave and DJ Liebchen - they were two of the wonderful people I met at Midnight last week, and unfortunately I had just missed her spin. But I chatted on and off throughout the night with them, and of course Colleen immediately found me and we rejoiced over her being back home.
The night was pretty good - saw a few bands, some of them were ok, some of them not. I had gotten there in time to see Red This Ever - a relatively new local band that a lot of my colleagues had recommended to me. Their songs on myspace are really good, and technically they sounded good live; but their stage presence was very noticably lacking. The lead singer looked like he had just rolled out of bed, and none of the musicians looked enthusiastic about their music OR about the huge crowd they had. Very little audience interaction - they talked a bit to some of their friends in the crowd, whereas I (who was directly in front, as usual) never managed eye contact with any of them. I'm gonna hope that it was just nerves about playing with such a well-known line-up (including Terrorfakt, Chemlab, Life Cried, and Anders Manga), because I think they could really get something going if they showed a little more life and confidence. They had one song in particular, "Nobody", that I really enjoyed.
It seems the night was full of surprises in my expectations. I had always heard good things about Anders Manga and Terrorfakt, but I was not impressed with either's performance. On the flip side, Life Cried (who I had not heard of before) was rediculously amazing. I have to admit, part of that comes from strong similiarities to Psyclon Nine (both Chris of LC and Marshall of P9 have very similiar performance styles; and of course it's a very similiar style of music), but also because it was a totally solid performance. Lot's of energy, lot's of communication. Great show, can't wait to get their album once I start making money again.
So me and Colleen were in our weather-considerate gothic best, and Sideshow Bob caught us for another quick pic - I love it!

And speaking of pics, when I got home and checked my email I saw that I got my final photos back from Mike Metheny, and my prelims back from Larry Bradby, and they're awesome! I popped one of each up on my myspace profile for now...I'll add more soon...

...but I have to leave some space, because me and Corrie should be doing that photoshoot together with Larry hopefully sometime soon. And since we all know that Corrie is about 10 times hotter than me, lol, you know it's gonna be good! :-D
So, I figured, hey that was a great day...I'm not feeling well so I'm going to bed...
...and I woke up around 4:30AM seeing as my throat decided that swelling closed was a good idea. Enough of that nonsense, I gave up, got up and went to the ER. Because, to quote Jimmie's Chicken Shack, "breathing is really cool, and I love my life." Yes, I do indeed have bronchitis, but it seems like what got me first was some nasty cold virus that decided to take up residence in my neck and compounded the issue. So they started me on antibotics for the bacterial infection and steroids and an inhaler for the inflammation for the viral infection. They kept me around for an hour until the swelling had gone down considerably, and sent me home with some codine. Codine is nice stuff...
Yeah, that was fun. So now that the codine has worn off and I'm coherant, I'm off to the pharmacy to pick up my perscriptions, and then I am going back to bed and I'm not getting out again.
